AUGUST KAEMS PASSES AWAY
Had Been Ill Since Paralytic Stroke Last December
August Kaems, 74, for 35 years proprietor of a South Tenth street tavern, died
Sunday at 8:15 a.m., after an illness dating back to last December. He had been
retired for the last 10 years.
Mr. Kaems suffered a paralytic stroke Dec. 21 from which he never recovered.
During the intense heat, he suffered a heart attack on July 11 and his condition
grew steadily worse.
The body will lie in state at the Pfeffer funeral home from seven o’clock tonight
until the hour of the funeral. The Rev. L. H. Koeninger will conduct funeral
services at the funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen
cemetery.
Mr. Kaems was born in this city Aug. 6, 1861. On Oct. 12, 1887, he married Miss
Sophie Mallmann. They resided at 1134 S. 40th street. Mr. Kaems was active in
civic affairs and at one time was a member of the fire and police commission.
Survivors are the widow, two children, Mr. Walter Biesemeyer of this city and
Lester of San Pedro, Calif., two brothers, Charles of this city and Julius of
Sheboygan, one sister, Mrs. Karl Witzman of Green Bay, and two grandchildren.
He was a member of the Lutheran church.
