Randolph Sanderson Peterson, 87, of Sarona and formerly of Owatonna, Minn., died June 5 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. Funeral services were Saturday morning at the Long Lake Lutheran Church in Sarona, with the Rev. Shelly Schultz officiating. Visitation was Thrusday afternoon with a Masonic service at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna and on Saturday at the Long Lake Lutheran Church in Sarona prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Peterson was born Sept. 1, 1917 in Harmony, Minn., to Oscar and Stina (Sanderson) Peterson. He graduated from Harmony High School in 1935 and from St. Olaf College in 1939. Mr. Peterson then served in the Army Air Force stationed in Victorville, Calif., from 1942-1945 and with the 1700th Air Transport Group stationed at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, during the Korean War. He married Julia Rakestraw on June 26, 1948 in Atlanta, Ga. The couple lived there and in Dallas, Texas, and Owatonna during his 44-year career with Federated Mutual Insurance Co. They enjoyed many summers at Long Lake and winters in Texas and Florida. Mr. Peterson was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Owatonna Elks 1395 and a long-time member of the Owatonna Country Club, where he had served as secretary/treasurer. Mr. Peterson was a Boy Scout leader and was KRFO Citizen of the Day. He enjoyed golfing, boating, driving his car and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Julia; two sons, David of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., and Wendell of Owatonna; a daughter, Teresa Schreiner of New Richmond; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dagny Sylling of Spring Grove, Minn.
