Arthur E. Barrett, 89, a lifelong resident of the Cedar Rapids area, died following a lengthy illness, Saturday, Oct. 10 at Heritage Acres Care Center in Cedar Rapids, where he had resided the past three years.
He was born the son of Walter and Esther Baldwin Barrett on July 31, 1898 in Viola, Iowa.
On Aug. 6, 1927 at Scranton, Penn., he was married to Hazel Hinkle, who died Sept. 16, 1968.
Mr. Barrett was a production worker with Penick & Ford in Cedar Rapids for twenty years until his retirement in 1962. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Marion and Grain Millers Local No. 100.
Surviving are four sons, Gerald of Marion, Kenneth of Cedar Rapids, Clifford of Hiawatha and Richard of Chino, Calif.; twenty-one grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a brother, Melvin of Portland, Ore. Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Ann Fillmore.
Services were held Oct. 13 at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Charles Mehaffey of Asbury United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids officiating. Interment was at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
A memorial fund has been established.
