Myrtle B. Lomsdalen, 99, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.Funeral Services for Myrtle will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30 in Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, and continuing for one hour prior to Thursday's services at the church.
Interment will be at Scandia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beltrami.
Myrtle was born to Bernhart and Ingeborg (Nygaard) Orvik on March 12, 1914 in Shelly, Minn. She attended Beltrami High School, graduating with the class of 1932. She later enrolled at Moorhead State College, where she received her teaching certificate and later, her Bachelor of Science degree, along with special education certification.
On February 8, 1941, Myrtle was united in marriage to Martin Lomsdalen of Rothsay. Together they lived and farmed near rural Lockhart, Minn., until moving to Halstad in 1960. Myrtle taught at several rural Minnesota schools, most notably at Climax and Halstad.
After 28 years of teaching, Myrtle retired in 1976. Martin passed away in 1988, and in 2002, Myrtle moved to Detroit Lakes to be closer to her daughter and family.
Myrtle enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was wonderful at sewing, crocheting, knitting and crafts. She made several items throughout the years that will be cherished by her family for years to come.
Myrtle will be remembered and missed by her daughter, Marlys (Jene) Peterson of Detroit Lakes; three granddaughters, Erin Peterson of Anchorage, Alaska, Krista (Daric) Frenzel of Moorhead and Kari (Andy) Braun of Maple Grove, Minn.; one grandson, Brady (Beth) Peterson of Independence, Minn.; and one great granddaughter, Noelle Beatrice Braun; along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Clarence, Norman, and Terry Orvik; and sisters, Junice Berglund and Lila Peterson.
