Dr. Elmer "Buz" Ellsworth Inman Jr., 86, of Annapolis, died June 6.

He was born May 24, 1927 in Mitchell, S.D. He received a BA at UCLA in 1949, and a MA at Occidental College in 1950. In 1964, Dr. Inman was awarded his PHD at Claremont Graduate University, followed by a NSF Post-Doctoral Fellowship at University of Colorado in 1971.

As a CDR in the U.S. Navy, he served in Bainbridge; San Diego, CA; Guam, M.I.; New London, CT; and the U.S. Naval Academy. Dr. Inman was a Clinical Psychologist for the U.S. Navy in multiple locations, in addition to serving as a Clinical Psychologist for Bay Area Psychological Health Services. He was also an Adjunct Associate Professor for the Graduate School at George Washington University.

Among his achievements, Dr. Inman was the first uniformed psychologist named to the faculty at the Naval Academy. An active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, he also donated his office condominium to the organization. He volunteered as an off-shore sailing coach at the U.S. Naval Academy.

His memberships included former Board of Directors, Anne Arundel Habitat for Humanity; MD Psychological Assn.; and First President of AA County Psychological Assn. His interests included reading, travel, current events and family.

Dr. Inman is survived by his son, Bruce Inman of Brea, CA; his daughters, Lisa Devlin, Colleen Weller, Melanie Tucker, and Sharon Whelan, all of Arnold; sister, Shirley Boyce of Grand Junction, CO; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Anne Arundel Habitat for Humanity, or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
