"O.J.", or "Joe", as he was known, was the son of a French barrel maker from Alsase Lorraine, who settled in Bay City MI. Joe worked on a ship, as a boy and came to meet the family of the legendary Captain Basil Hall. Joe married Captain Bazil Hall's granddaughter, Bertha Payne, and opened a pumbing business, car dealership (Model T's) and gas station, and real estate brokerage all in East Falls Church Va.

His wife, Bertha Payne, belonged to "Northern Neck of the Potomac Society", and he loved his life. He traveled to Michigan often, and stayed close to his family there, while participating in the massive Payne family along the Potomac.

Because of his son, Alan Chanel's scandelous divorce, OJ never met his grandson, Weymer Lee Chanel, although in a town that small they all knew of each other. Wife Bertha died young, and OJ was overwhelmed.

Died abt 1930, East Falls Church , Fairfax County Va.
