In 1845, under the auspices of the British Temperance and Emigration Society, James and Mary immigrated to Dover, Wisconsin as a party of six, including Sarah, Mary and Prudence, and a fourth person, possibly Hannah. Martha and Charlotte are known to have remained in England.
Mary, age 66, appears with James in the 1860 US census of Black Earth. James passed away in 1863, and was buried in the Mazomanie Cemetery. Subsequently, Mary appears in the 1870 census, age 76 (though census transcriptions give her age as 16, the census clearly reads 76), living with her son-in-law and daughter, Thomas and Sarah (Copley) Hodkinson.
Mazomanie Cemetery records show her interred next to her husband on 15 Sept 1872. However, apparently no gravestone marks her grave.
