MACHIAS - Bernard Neal Lawrence, 86, of Maple Avenue, Machias, passed away Wednesday (May 8, 2013) at the Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home in Springville.
Born Sept. 25, 1926, in Worthville, Pa., he was a son of the late William C. and Annie May Wolfgang Lawrence. His first wife, Deloris E. Schick Lawrence, died in 1997. On Feb. 1, 2008, he married Ruth Bates VanDerWedge Lawrence, who survives.
Mr. Lawrence was a diesel mechanic for Bison Ford in Buffalo.
He was a member of the Mount Vernon Lodge 263 Free and Accepted Masons, Java Village. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America for many years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Barbara (James) Weiser of Amherst; a son, Kenneth (Cheryl) Lawrence of Canton, Ga.; seven stepchildren, Ellen (Paul) Stoll of Franklinville, George VanDerWedge of Franklinville, Floyd (Linda) VanDerWedge of Kansas, Norma VanDerWedge of Franklinville, Lucy (Dusty) Ramsey of Franklinville, Wendy (Ken) Ramage of Olean and Sandy (Rick) Nawrocki of Huntley, Va.; a brother, William (Lucille) Lawrence of Middleport; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by three sisters, Catherine Eber, Rosa Zurnick and Mildred Beyer; and four brothers, Albert, Arnold, Arthur and Michael Lawrence.
Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, North Tonawanda.
Memorials may be made to the Machias United Methodist Church or Machias Fire Department.
