The Eldon Advertiser, August 6, 1931

The funeral of John A. McKinley was held at his home in Eldon, Thursday afternoon. Mr. McKinley had been in bad health for several years, but he was able to be up and around part of the time until the past few months. He moved to Eldon twenty-two years ago and lived for a good may years on South Grand Avenue. He worked for Eldon Hardware & Lumber Company and had charge of the public school buildings for several years.

John Anderson* McKinley was born Jan. 4, 1863, near Osage Irontown in Camden County, and departed this life July 29, 1931, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 25 days. In 1887 he was united in marriage to Annie Beeson and to them three sons and one daughter were born. The three sons are living, Charles McKinley, Gravois Mill, Bert McKinley and Alfred McKinley of Eldon. The daughter, Nona, had preceded her father in death. One stepdaughter, Mrs. Ida Merriott, of Eldon, and two brothers and one sister of Barnett, were the immediate family relatives besides Mrs. McKinley, who is living.

Mr. McKinley professed faith in Christ soon after coming to Eldon and became a member of the Methodist Church to which faith he continued until his death. He became more interested in religious affairs during the later part of his life and talked about the future as though he wanted to be sure that his efforts to live right had not been a failure.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. A. Gray, pastor of the Methodist Church, and the body was laid to rest in the Eldon Cemetery.

*Informant for this obituary is unknown, however I have been advised that his middle name was actually Andrew.
