Dot trained as a nurse at the William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield, KS. She worked for Dr. Howard Snyder as a surgical nurse for several years following graduation and then joined the Army Nurse Corps. After basic training, she worked in the surgical pavillion in the Madigan Army Hospital in Washington before she was transferred to the 97th General Army Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany.

In 1973, after her husband retired, the family moved to Axton, where Dot was active in the Axton Baptist Church.

She leaves her husband, daughter and three sons, seven grandchildren, as well as two sisters and two brothers, and 22 nieces and nephews with many memories.
