Obituary: Norma Jean (Davis) Healis Adams
Norma Jean (Davis) Healis Adams went to be with our Lord early Sunday morning, Nov. 14, 2010, while surrounded by the love and care of her three daughters.
Norma Jean was born on Jan. 1, 1934 and was the New Year's baby in Terre Haute, Ind. She was the only child of Louise White Davis and Edward Davis. She graduated from high school in 1952 from Woodruff High, Peoria, Ill. After school she worked for Catepillar Corporation until she moved to California in 1958.
She was married twice and had four children that she raised for many years by herself working two and three jobs to provide for her family. She then met and married the love of her life, Ulysses E. "Ed" Healis on March 30, 1969. They worked side by side to raise their family. Some of her working career included managing motels, working in a factory as a punch press operator, and owning poker rooms.
Norma lovingly cared for Ulysses the two years he battled cancer until passing in November 1996. They had enjoyed 27 years of marriage.
She was married in 1997 to Delmar "Del" Adams. They moved to Riverside where they spent their summers and then enjoyed being California snowbirds during the winter. They loved dancing at the Eagles and Moose Lodges. Norma's mother, Louise, was their "chaperone" until she passed away at age 90. Del passed away Nov. 6, 2010, eight days before Norma. He was at home where he was cared for and surrounded by the love of Norma and his three stepdaughters.
Norma was preceded in death by her father, Edward Davis; mother, Louise Davis, husband, Ulysses "Ed"" Healis; husband, Del Adams; and son, Vincent Scott Tackmann.
She is survived by three daughters, Sherry Ortiz of Victorville, Calif., Laurie Jean LaJoie of Okanogan, and Paula (Don) Starr of Exeter, Calif.; three grandchildren, Annette, Don and Karen; and four great-grandchildren.
Norma will be laid to rest by her husband, Ulysses, in the Ridgecrest, Calif. cemetery. There will be a memorial service in Omak at a later date in honor of her life.
