Kris Stenberg, Thief River Falls, MN, age 64, died Tuesday February 12, 2013 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral services on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. John Voelker, PhD, officiating. Visitation prior to the funeral service. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Kris Lee Stenberg was born on June 20, 1948 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Vernon and Fern (Brodin) Stenberg. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Kris lived with her family until 1978 when she moved to a group home in Karlstad, MN. In 1979, she returned to live in Thief River Falls at Benson's home for 20 years. Kris then lived at Oakwood Home until 2001.

On May 21, 1979 Kris became employed by the TRF-ODC. She was in the Work Services Program and worked in the packaging department as well as the Arctco enclave. Kris then participated in the HTC program at the ODC and spent most of her time in the rec/leisure room. She enjoyed helping others with projects, walking in the garden, listening to Pastor Terri, and participating in nutrition classes. Some of the jobs she participated in were REA envelopes, fold laundry, inserting liners in to pizza boxes, and the tool line. Kris worked very hard to achieve all of her goals. She enjoyed going to work every day at the ODC up until the time of her death.

Kris was admitted to Johnson's Riverside on March 1, 2002. Kris has spent the last few years living at East Wood Residence in Thief River Falls. Because of the wonderful care and structured environment at East Wood Residence, Kris was able to enjoy life and feel empowered in her independence.

Kris enjoyed listening to music and books on tape, fishing, dancing, making jewelry, concerts, out of town shopping trips, watching movies, making latch-hook rugs, and going out for coffee with her friends at East Wood. She loved cats and spending time with her family.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.

Survivors include her mother, Fern Stenberg of Thief River Falls; brother, Greg (Angie) Stenberg of Scottsdale, AZ; sister, Jill (Brian Schindler) Stenberg of Thief River Falls; nieces & nephews, Heather (Randy), Laura, Tiffany, Justin, Cody, Nick, Jadyn, Harlee, Daniel, and Julianna; great nieces & nephews, Storm, Austin, Spencer, and Sky; special friend and care giver, Linda at East Wood Residence; and many other friends.
