Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday, October 22) at the First Reformed church for Harry Smith, who died at the Grossmann hospital here Sunday.

He was 91 years old - within a few days of his 92nd birthday - and death was attributed to general complications of old age.

Mr. Smith had been hospitalized off-and-on during the past months, following a fall in which he broke his hip, but had recovered from that injury and was walking again before his final illness.

Rev. Henry Colenbrander conducted the services Wednesday, and interment was made in Orange City cemetery. Van Etten's handled the arrangements.

Mr. Smith was born in the Netherlands November 1, 1866, the son of Jan Smith and Dorothy Bes. After coming to this country in 1882, he worked in New Jersey and was a contractor there. He later moved to the Steen, Minn., community where he farmed for many years.

He and Mrs. Smith, the former Ella Vanden Berg, whom he married on January 14, 1894, moved to Orange City upon their retirement in 1946.

Survivors include Mrs. Smith; a brother, Barney Smith of Glen Rock, N.J.; a son, J.H. Smith of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Mrs. Herman De Groot of Orange City, preceded Mr. Smith In death this spring.
