Murray Abeloff
(June 24, 1921 - April 28, 2013)

Murray Abeloff, 91, of Stroudsburg, died on Sunday, April 28, 2013.
He was born June 24, 1921 in East Stroudsburg, the son of Nathan and Pearl Ruth (Nadelman) Abeloff.
Noted for his quick wit and self-deprecating sense of humor, Murray was also an accomplished accordion and organ player, entertaining those who shared his love of music. He was a deep lover of art and local history. At one time in his life, he drove a school bus and was noted as being "one of the best drivers the students ever had," generously giving them candy and money on holidays.
Murray enjoyed dining at local eateries, particularly Wyckoff's Tea Room, and in recent years frequented the Snydersville Diner, where he was loved by all the waitresses and entertained all in his humorous way.
Murray was a graduate of East Stroudsburg High School and attended East Stroudsburg State Teachers College (now East Stroudsburg University). He was a licensed realtor and also worked with his brother, at the Abeloff auto businesses in East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg.
Among Murray's survivors are his brother, Lester Abeloff; nephews Daniel Abeloff of Carlsbad, California, Edwin Abeloff of Dickson City; niece Emily Abeloff Adler of Dalton, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, a brother, Maynard Abeloff, predeceased him.
Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, April 30, at Temple Israel, 711 Wallace Street, Stroudsburg, PA. Burial will follow in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg. After the services, light refreshments will be served at the temple.
A Shiva service will be held at 6:30PM on Tuesday at the home of Lester Abeloff, 5596 Glenbrook Road, Stroudsburg. Anyone wishing to visit the family at other times may do so by appointment.
In accordance with Jewish tradition, memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Temple Israel of the Poconos, 711 Wallace Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 or to a charity of choice in Murray's memory.
