Paul Joseph Koenig, 51, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. A memorial service celebrating his life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines with Chaplain Pam Avaux officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will take place in Waco at a later date.
Paul was born Dec. 2, 1960, in Dallas, and was the son of Francis and Elizabeth Koenig. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was proud of his service. Paul was also a reserve police officer in Rhome, Texas. He was employed with AT&T as an account manager.
Paul married Staci Smejkal on Feb. 14, 2011, in West Des Moines and they attended Lutheran Church of Hope. Paul will be remembered as a loving and kind man who enjoyed cooking, photography and spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Paul's memory will be cherished by his wife, Staci; children, Paul Koenig Jr. and wife, Amanda, Kayla Koenig, Shelby Koenig, and Chandler Koenig; step-children, Brittani Smejkal and Haleigh Smejkal; and grandchildren, Mackenzie and Tyler Koenig.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice or to the church.
