Robert Jon "Bob" Vande Brake, 38, of Orange City died Monday, July 10, at the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Municipal Hospital after a long illness.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 13, at First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Stephen Vander Molen officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery.
Vande Brake was born August 5, 1956, in Orange City, the son of Wilbur J. and Wilma Jean (Aalberts) Vande Brake.
He was raised in Orange City, where he graduated from Maurice-Orange City High School and Northwestern College. He was employed at Bomgaars stores in Le Mars and Hawarden. He began farming northwest of Orange City about 1981.
He moved into Orange City in 1988 due to failing health and became a resident of the care facility on July 12, 1993.
He was a member of First Reformed Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dustin and Craig, both of Ashton; his father and stepmother. Wilbur and Joan Vande Brake of Orange City; two sisters. Mrs. Jack (Anita) Vogel and Mrs. Henry (Vicki) Huisman, both of Orange City; five nephews and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
A memorial has been established in his name for ataxia research.
