John was the son of Jesse J. Evans and Clara Jane Creek Evans.

He was a graduate of Iowa State with a degree in Horticulture, and excelled in field and track at Iowa and the Drake relays. He was affiliated with John Deere for many years.

On August 28, 1918, he married Katharine McCarroll, daughter of Wm. Fleming McCarroll and Carita Belknap HEDRICK McCarroll, and resided in Norfolk, NE, and Storm Lake, IA.

Survivors: son, Edwin Denio "Ed" Evans, 1920-2000, of Norfolk, Ponce,PR, Monett & Joplin,MO, & Dallas,TX, (wife: Bonnie FARNER); and son, John Hedrick "Jack" Evans,1921-1995, of Ft.Dodge,IA, & Ft.Myers,FL.,(wife: Rachel WEIGMAN Evans Fabens,1923-2002; 3 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Sliefert Memorial Chapel, Storm Lake, with Rev. Duane Queen officiating; Lorraine Schramm: organist; and Sharon Daniels: vocalist.
Honorary bearers: Arthur Sutton, Wm. Kerslake, Edward Shaw, Wm. Skeels, John Anderson, and Ilo Larson. Active bearers: Rex Bentley, Douglas Hansen, Thomas Robbins, Dick Schmitz, Gaylon Bond, and Arthur Sutton, Jr.
