Joe, 59, of Detroit, died Wednesday in Henry Ford Hospital.
He was a journalism graduate of Wayne State University, and member of the Hamtramck Rotary Club, Michigan Press Association, Polish-American Century Club and the Friends of Polish Art.
Joe started his career as sportswriter and then editor of the New Deal newspaper. In 1944 Joe became part owner of the Hamtramck Citizen and full owner in 1947. After his death the Citizen was run for many years by his wife Frances and then their daughter Karen. The Citizen lasted until 2009 when it fell victim to the changing times that devastated the newspaper industry as a whole.
Surviving are his wife Frances, two daughters Mrs Richard Spang and Mrs Edward Johnson, two brothers and four grandchildren.
Prayers will be said Thursday evening at the John J Skupny Funeral Home 11405 Conant, Hamtramck and burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Tributes may be made to the American Cancer Society.
