JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Funeral services and burial will be held Wednesday in Sardis for John William Kyle, a Rhodes scholar who served as a state legislator and state attorney general before becoming a justice of the Mississippi Supreme Court.
Kyle, the tribunal's presiding justice, died Monday at 73. He had been stricken with a heart attack Friday.
Kyle, a bachelor, was graduated from the University of Mississippi law school and served as state senator from Panola County from 1928-1950.
Born near Batesville, Kyle was named attorney general in 1950 and later that year was appointed to the Supreme Court.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. R. C. McCarter of Batesville, and a brother, F. M. Kyle of Bunkie, La.
Associate Justice W. N. Ethridge Jr. of Oxford automatically becomes presiding justice. Ethridge is now slated to become chief justice in January when Chief Justice Percy Lee retires.
