Mr. Benson died Wednesday, February 14, in Overlook Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in the New Utrecht section of Brooklyn, be resided there until he moved here 47 years ago.
He was a graduate of Peace Institute, Brooklyn, and a recipient of one of the first Certified Public Accountant certificates issued by the State of New York.
Until he retired eight years ago, he was employed as a CPA by Loomis, Suffern and Fernald in New York City.
He was a member at the Westfield Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution and, as a descendant of Dirck Benson, who came to New Amsterdam in 1648, was a member of the Holland Society of New York City.
Mr. Benson also was a life member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and a member of the New Utrecht Liberty Pole Association.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lillie Smith Benson; a son, Edward A. Jr. of Westfield and two grandsons.
