Frederick William "Fred" Dasse emigrated to the United States from Pustow, Demmin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, with his father Otto, his mother Wilhelmina, brothers Richard and Paul, paternal Aunt Pauline, and paternal grandmother, Henrietta Dasse, when he was just 4 years old. He married Ida F Ellman and they had two sons: Merton, who died in infancy, and Frederick O "Fred" Dasse, Jr.
