Choteau—Bessie June McCann passed away peacefully on June 20, 2013 at Teton Medical Center, Extended Care, in Choteau, Montana. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday on June 6.
Bessie "Becky June" was born June 6, 1923 in Simms, MT to Bruno H. Zimmerman and Mary Eleanor Pearl Loomis Kinna Zimmerman. She was the third of three daughters and the apple of her parents' eyes. She grew up in the depression years, helping earn money by raising bum lambs and selling newspapers. She had the dream of becoming a nurse at a young age, and set about making her dream come true by studying hard and becoming her senior class Valedictorian in 1941. This honor offered her a scholarship to the Nursing Program at Montana State University in Bozeman. Mom studied hard and graduated Magna Cum Laude and Valedictorian of the class in 1945.
During this time, her sister-in-law Fern McCann Kinna asked her if she would write to Fern's brother, Lynn MCCann, who has joined the Army and was being sent overseas to the Philippines. They started corresponding as he fought in World War II in Sabu and Laytey. Love blossomed and they were married July 10, 1946, just six months after he returned home with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Their first daughter was born October 26, 1947 and their second daughter was born May 19, 1950.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother John C. Kinna; her sisters Edna Janette Kinna Hane, Mary Ellen Johnson and Margaret Rose Kirby; brother Eugene Henry Zimmerman; and her beloved husband Allen Lynn McCann. There is a grand reunion in Heaven as Mom joins all her loving family.
She survived by her two daughters; grandchildren; and a great granddaughter.
