John was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Scully) Kain. John immigrated to the United States in 1848 and became a U.S. Naturalized Citizen on May 12, 1858. John Kain and Ann McDermott were married in 1852. John was a Passenger Trainman and Brakeman for the Erie Railroad. He was the youngest of 9 children. John retained a love for Ireland, making at least eight trips back to his homeland. His children changed the spelling of their last name from Kain to Kane.
