Rev. J. Ilgen Burrell, pastor of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran church, in State street, Brooklyn, died on Sunday, 21st inst. The deceased clergyman came to Brooklyn about two years ago, in pursuance of a call received and accepted by him from St. Matthew's English Lutheran church, with whom he labored up to the time of his illness very energetically and with great success. Mr. Burrell was born in 1829, near Bellefonte, Centre county, Pa. In 1855 he graduated from the Pennsylvania Lutheran College, at Gettysburg.

The Death of a Pastor
The Rev. J. Ilgen Burrell, pastor of the St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, in State street, Brooklyn, died on Sunday the 21st. He became pastor of the church two years ago, and went to Brooklyn from Stone Church Northampton county, Pa., where he had been a pastor for fifteen years, building up in that time three large churches within a circuit of ten Miles.--"New York Sun of 22"
A large throng of the recent parishioners and a number of the congregation of the late Rev. J. Ilgen Burrell, attended his funeral yesterday afternoon, the 22 inst., in St. Matthew's Lutheran Evangelical Church , in State street, Brooklyn, of which the dead preacher had been the pastor for two years. The house was heavily draped; the coffin was covered with floral emblems. The songs were by the Sunday school pupils. The Rev. Dr. Wedekind, President of the Lutheran Synod in New York, read the Scripture lesson, and the Rev. A. Hiller of German Valley, N. J., preached the sermon. Brief eulogies were spoken by the Rev. Justin D. Fulton and the Rev. Dr. Wild. The enterment was in Greenwood Cemetery.--"New York Sun of 23"
