Florence "Marie" Fidler, 89, of Topeka, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013.
She was born February 3, 1924 in Kanapolis, KS, the daughter of Arthur Raymond and Florence Augusta (Milbradt) Griffith.
She was employed by Ohse Meats in Topeka for 25 years before retiring.
Marie married Walter E. Fidler on March 15, 1947 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Anna Fidler and Tina (John) Fassnacht all of Topeka; three grandchildren, Shawn and Jennifer Howey, Topeka and Torrie (Lesli Smith) Fassnacht, Lawrence, KS two step-grandchildren, Jennifer Boon and Jeremy Fassnacht, Dallas,TX; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Howey, Meriden and Nikola Fassnacht, Lawrence; six step-great-grandchildren, Mayson, Mayia and Cidney Fassnacht, Christen, Tiffani and Meghan Boon, all of Dallas, TX; three siblings, Voyd (Janice) Griffith, Tecumseh, Thelma (Roy) Tichenor, Topeka and Agnes (Don) Thompson, Meriden; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Griffith, Topeka. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vernie Jo Howey in 1977; a sister, Ethel Snickles; and two brothers, Marion and Dale Griffith.
A funeral ceremony will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka. Marie will lie in state after 3 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1315, SW Arrowhead Rd., Topeka, KS 66604.
I learned the story of her nickname. Where they lived when they were children, there was an old lady by the name of Myrtle who wasn't very nice. Being the oldest of 7 children, the younger ones said she was bossy so they nicknamed her Myrt after Myrtle.
