William was a son of Benjamin W. Marley & Frances Laws. He married Martha M. Ferguson in 1875. He was a farmer and a school teacher. He died during "heart surgery" at his home preformed by doctors who traveled from Lenoir. He left a widow and small children. His land was later taken for the Kerr Scott Dam Reservoir except for the small family cemetery plot. The William W. Marley family cemetery is located on the North Marley Ford Road, Ferguson, Wilkes, NC. It is on the mountain side above where his home once stood on his farm.
