Ruth Phillips Johns, 89, was born July 21, 1923 in Prescott. She passed away June 24, 2013.

Mrs. Johns was raised in Phoenix and Pinnacle Peak where her parents owned a dude ranch. She attended Phoenix Union and Tempe High School.

On Feb. 10, 1945 Ruth married Richard (Dick) Johns M.D. while he was stationed in North Dakota during World War II. Ruth and Dick spent many happy times with their family and friends at their cabin built in 1956 at Rim Trail.

They moved to Payson permanently in 1967 where she lived out the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Johns was very active in politics and served as president of the Arizona Women's Republican group during the Goldwater presidential campaign. She was instrumental in establishing the Meals on Wheels program in the Phoenix area. Twenty-five years ago, Ruth and her husband, Dick, came to a saving faith in Jesus Christ and were baptized in Pine by their friend and mentor Paul Koren.

Mrs. Johns is survived by her five children, Dick and Vicki, Mike and Susi, Tom and Lynn, Shannon and Barney Branstetter, Steve and Kelly, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday June 29 at Payson Pioneer Cemetery, located at Mesa Drive and Vista Road.

The family suggests donations in Mrs. Johns' name be sent to the Payson Senior Center Meals on Wheels program at 514 W. Main St., Payson AZ 85541.
