Joan Ashworth, age 71, of Beckley, died on Monday, March 15, 2010, at her home.

Born on February 6, 1939, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Robert J. Ashworth and Virginia Hill Ashworth.

Joan was a former teacher and was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and West Virginia University, with a degree in education. She was a member of the Alpha Phi at West Virginia University. Joan was a member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church in Beckley. She was a member of the Beckley Art Group, and the Beckley Woman's Club.

Surviving are her children: Virginia Rose Blosser and her husband Gilbert of Beckley; Karen Ann Greer of Beckley; a sister, Nancy Sanderbeck and her husband Jack of Concord, N.C.; four grandchildren: Christopher Scott Hill of Beckley; Jennifer Ann Greer of Beckley; Matthew Wayne Blosser and his wife Kacie of Beaver; Ashley Rose Scott and her husband Gary Lee Scott II of Clarksville, Tenn.; one great-grandchild, Ethan Scott Hill of Beckley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, at the Beckley Presbyterian Church with Dr. William A. dePrater officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Friends may call from noon until service time on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Bays, Howard Mays, Frank Meadows, Ralph Prince, Fred Quesenberry, and Robert Young.
