Royal M. Bates, 78, of 111 West Bidwell Street, Battle Creek, died Sunday in Community Hospital. She was born in rural Coldwater, Branch County, and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1927. She moved to Battle Creek in 1956. She was a former employee of Branch County Department of Social Services and a former accountant and officer of Federated Publications Incorporated. She was a member of the old Lakeview General Hospital Auxiliary and a leader in Neighborhood Watch programs. She formerly attended Coldwater United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling. Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Oak Grove Cemetery, Coldwater. Arrangements by Farley-Estes Funeral Home.
