Bernard Rudene Perkins, 86 of Meridian, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at a local care facility.

Private graveside services will be held under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.

Rudene was a native Idahoan born in Pocatello to Bernard and Minnie Perkins.
He graduated from Pocatello High School and shortly after joined the US Navy. Rudene proudly served his country for the last year of WWII. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 15 years. He then attended University of Idaho and became a teacher. Rudene married Elsie Allen on August 30, 1947 and to this union, two children were born. He taught in Paul and Homedale, Idaho before moving to southern California where he taught for 26 more years. Rudene was a coach and never outgrew playing outdoor sports. He won numerous gold medals in the Idaho Senior Olympics.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was sealed to his wife, Elsie, for all eternity at the Santa Monica Temple.

Rudene is survived by his wife, Elsie Perkins; daughter, Vicky Najarian; son, Ted Perkins; granddaughter, Christi; grandson, Scott; and 4 great-grandchildren.
