FRED CHASE DIES AT AGE 93
Former President of Citizens Bank in Parsons
The death of Fred Chase Sr. 93, occurred Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fifi Edwards of Mountain Lake. with whom he resided for the last two years. He chiefly served as the President of Citizens National Bank of Parsons. Mr. Chase was among the founders of the bank and served as its first Vice President. In 1924 he became president upon the death of the first bank President Frank Scouton.
He was born in Wells Bridge, New York, and came to Parsons in 1896 where he had been employed at the time as a station agent for the D&H Railroad. Later he and his brother Albert founded the Chase Brothers Produce Company developing the business as one of the leading produce dealers in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He retired from the business in 1925 to become active in banking circles.
As a young man he was a semi pro baseball player, playing for several semi-pro teams in the area. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper having active interest in the United Sportsmans Club.
With the late attorney J.C. Cheveling, he was instrumental in developing the acquisition of the Federal Game Lands through Northeastern Pennsylvania.
His wife the late Margaret Twist, of the Laflin Borough died October 1, 1943.
Surviving are his children George of Buck Township, President of the Citizens Bank of Wilkes-Barre, Mrs. Mabel Richards, Wilkes-Barre, Fred Jr. Trailwood, Pa, Albert, Parsons, Mrs. Edith Evans, Coaldale, Robert, Laurel Run, and Mrs. Edwards. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, 32 great-gramdhchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Officiating is Pastor Herbert Hayes of the Messiah PM Church
Internment will be at the Denison Cemetery in Swoyersville.
