Mr. Bevel was born in Butlers Mill a son of the late William McKinley and Della Craig Bevel and moved to Southport from Theodore, Alabama, in 1955. He was a member of Southport Baptist Church. He served 4 years in the U.S. 6th Cavalry at Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia. For 32 years he worked with U.S. Civil Service, serving at Camp Forrest, Tennessee, Huntsville Arsenal, Alabama, and Port of Embarcation of New Orleans at Mobile, Alabama. He came to Sunny Point Army Terminal in 1955 and retired in 1970. While in the cavalry, he won medals for Best Rifleman Mounted and Dismounted, blue ribbons for horsemanship, and other medals. He was a member of Guy T. Smith Masonic Lodge of Hallingers Island, Mobile, Alabama, since 1948, loved hunting, fishing and traveling and camping. His travels included 4 driving trips to Alaska. Morris died at Ocean Trail Nursing Center at age 87.
