Anthony R. "TAT" Tacinelli, 78, of 428 Meriden Ave, Southington, husband of Marie (Landino) Tacinelli, died peacefully at his home on Saturday (March 1, 2003). Born in Southington on July 4,1924, he was the son of the late John and Amalia (DeMaio) Tacinelli, and he was the first generation born in this country. He had graduated from Lincoln Lewis High school in 1943; he also graduated from Teachers College and Morse School of Business with a B.S in accounting. He was employed at Pexto for 24 years, and was owner and Past President of Tacinelli Agency. He had also served in the Army Air Corp in World War II, serving as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, 91st bomb group- 322 Squadron. He was shot down on his 21st mission on Dec. 5, 1944 over Berlin. He was reported missing in action and three days later became a prisoner of war that lasted six months. He had received two Purple Hearts and the Oak Cluster. Mr. Tacinelli was an active member and past president and Secretary of the Southington Kiwanis for 40 years, a member of the American Legion and the Southington Elks Club. He received many awards from Junior Achievement. TAT was an avid hunter, fisherman and a member and officer of the Southington Sportsman Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, John and his wife Brenda, Michael and his wife Darlene, both of Plainville; a daughter, Joanne Tacinelli of Southington; six grandchildren, John Jr., Richard, Jill, Jodi, Michael Jr. and Jessica; two loving great grandchildren, Veronica and Owen; a brother, Mario and his wife Lorraine Tacinelli of Plainville; and a sister Anna Tacinelli of Southington; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Pat and John Tacinelli.
