Melvin C. Butler

Mr. Butler, 73, of Mint Hill, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Butler was born May 4, 1940 in Wooster, Ohio to the late William Oscar Butler and Nellie Butler. He was a long standing member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where he served faithfully for twenty years as an usher, foreign missions, Sunday school teacher and volunteer.

Mr. Butler also gave of his time serving at the VA Hospital, where he met everyone with a smile and a helping hand. He served in both the Army and the Ohio National Guard for 14 years. Mr. Butler retired from Firestone in Akron, OH. He then went on to work at IBM until retiring in 1996.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Ann Butler, two brothers, William Oakley Butler and Glendal Oscar Butler.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 27, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, with the Reverend Clint Pressley officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6:30 until 8:30 P.M. Wednesday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill.

Mr. Butler was extremely passionate about his family. He is survived by his wife, Ann Butler; daughter, Tania Haywood and husband, Garland, of Mint Hill; son, Rodney Butler of Charlotte; sister, Shirley Easterling of Mint Hill; brothers, Tom Butler of Charlotte and Jim Butler of Wooster, OH; and two granddaughters who were the light of his world, Laney Ann Butler and Jasmyne Rayne Haywood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Hearts and Hammers Ministry, 6050 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215.
