Charles J. Grebel

Charles J. Grebel of 722 N. Buchanan street died Sunday at 9:05 A.M. at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. He had been a carpenter since he was 14 years old.
He was born March 4, 1875, in this city and had attained the age of 76 years, eight months and 19 days. His parents were the late Charles and Anna Bonner Grebel.
He was married to Miss Minnie Epping April 24, 1901 at St. Boniface Catholic Church by the late Rev. Metzger. She preceded him in death Aug. 27, 1948.
He is survived by four sons, Leo, Joseph, Cletus, and Urban Grebel of this city; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Frances) Long and the Misses Marcella and Helen Grebel of this city, four brothers, Al Grebel of this city, Clement of St. Louis, Fred and Paul Grebel of Dallas, Tx.; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three infant children preceded him in death.
He was a charter member of Carpenter's Local 308 and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Friends may call at the residence, 722 North Buchanan street after 7 P.M. Tuesday until 9 A.M. Thursday when services will be held from St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. P. P. McGuinness in charge.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with the Straube Funeral Home in charge.
The Rosary will be recited at the residence Wednesday at 8 P.M.

Final rites for Charles J. Grebel were held Thursday at 8:30 A.M. from the residence and at 9 o'clock from St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. P. P. McGuinness in charge.
Pallbearers were: George Shashek, Alois Marti, Edwin Burns, Harry Brunworth, Leonard Meek, and Ralph Luchtefeld.
Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery with the Straube Funeral Home in charge.
