Hector Orlando Rivera, 20, of Interlachen, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
He was born March 4, 1982 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, and the son of José A. and Rhode (Reyes) Rivera.
He attended E. H. Miller School and was a member of Iglesia Pentecostal de Avivamiento Elohim. He was a lovable and happy young adult. He enjoyed playing with bears and church music. Among his achievements, he is recognized by an annual award given in his name to students who demonstrated compassion and dedication to others at Nathan Hale Elementary School in Meridan, Conn.
Survivors are his loving parents; a brother José A. Rivera, Interlachen; two sisters, Raquel N. and husband Luis E. Maldonado, Interlachen; and Kimaira Serpa and husband, Roberto Carrero, Meriden, Conn.; five uncles, six aunts and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including, Amarya and Noemi Maldonado, both of Interlachen; Yesenia N. Carrero, Meriden, Conn.; Luis O. and José L. Maldonado, both of Interlachen; and Robert K. Carrero, Meriden, Conn.
Family and friends may call from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home, 1235 State Road 20 West, Interlachen.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Sunday, December 1 at the funeral home with the Rev. Pedro Crespo of Iglesia Pentecostal de Avivamiento Elohim officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Cemetery.
