MINOR MAYFIELD was born at Vin ???, Indiana, September 2, 1860, ??? died at the home of his son, CHARLES Mayfield, at Mulvane Kansas, March 3, 1923, at the age of 62 years, 6 months and 1 day. He was the eight child of JOHN and ELIZABETH MAYFIELD. His parents, four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Minor was four years old when his father died. At the age of 18 he was baptised and became a member of the Christian church. He went to Paris, Illinois, when he was about 18 years of age, and was married to DORA ELIZABETH DANIELS of that place on July 4, 1884. To this union seven children were born. The resided at Paris for several years, later moving to Cisco, Ill., and in 1904 they came to Kansas.
He was a farmer and lived for many years on farm four miles southeast of Mulvane. After leaving the farm he made his home in Mulvane. At the time of his death he was city marshal, and had held this office most of the time for several years. He was always ready to do his duty. He was sick only a short time. On Monday evening, February 26, he was taken suddenly ill and passed away early Saturday morning.
He is survived by four sons, CHARLES, ROBERT, and EDWARD of Mulvane and ROY of Jerome, Idaho; three daughters, MRS. CLARENCE [Bessie Elizabeth] WYGAL of Wagner, Montana, MRS. OTIS D. [Mina Florence] SCHAPER and MRS. JAMES L. [Jessie Ethel] JENKINS of Mulvane; and one brother, ASA MAYFIELD of Jasonvile, Indiana. Funeral services were held from the United Brethren Church in Mulvane Tuesday afternoon, March 6, at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Vera Winchell, and interment was in the Mulvane city cemetery.
