Obituary from the Lawrence Journal World, pg. 8, 1/24/1980:

George E. Smysor

Mulvane - Funeral services for George E. Smysor, 89, Mulvane, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Mulvane Church of Christ with the Rev. Warren Berkley officiating. Burial will follow in the Mulvane Cemetery. Mr. Smysor, who died Wednesday in Wichita, was born April 12, 1890, in Herman, Ill., and came to Kansas in 1902.

He had been a teacher and farmer in Mulvane until he entered the newpaper [sic] business. He was asociated with newspapers in Norwich and Protection before returning to Mulvane in 1924. He was editor of the Mulvane News until 1933 when he was named Mulvane postmaster. He retired in 1960.

He is survived by three sons, Francis, 1045 Wellington Rd., Lawrence, Raymond, Humble, Tex., and . . . ; one daughter, Mrs. Beryl Powell, Glaena; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials to the Mulvane Church of Christ.
