Jerry Rodney Ballard, 71 of Hopewell, passed away on Friday June 28, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry M. and Josephine Lynn Ballard; brother, Robert Ballard; sister, Janet Ballard.
Jerry retired from Dupont after almost 30 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Hopewell Church of Nazarene where he served as head trustee and took care of the maintenance and upkeep of the church and its properties, and was a former employee of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Jerry loved being outside and was always there to lend a helping hand to fix or repair things for his family and friends. He was a happy out going person to everyone that new and met him and will be greatly missed by all.
Jerry is survived by is wife, Sandy Ballard; daughter, Melissa VanMeter; son, Jerry Ballard; grandchildren, Sean Parr, Amber VanMeter, Tabitha VanMeter, Rachel Ballard; sister, Doris Lynn and her husband Glenn; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held 5pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service with visitation to follow until 8:30pm. A committal service will be held 1pm on Wednesday July 3, 2013 at Green Hill Cemetery 10th Street Buena Vista, VA. 24416.
