Roman "Romy" P. Gaedtke, age 76, of 4525 Menasha Avenue, Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Romy was born September 6, 1936 in Montpeliar, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Reinhardt and Adeline Jahnke Gaedtke. Romy was a graduate of Lincoln High School with the class of 1954. On September 26, 1959 he married Shirley Carstens at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. Romy entered the United States Army on November 2, 1959 and served his country for two years and four months being honorably discharged on February 14, 1962. After returning to Manitowoc from military duty Romy became employed with Oriental Milling and then later with Burger Boat Company for 34 years retiring in 2006 as the foreman of the hull shop. Romy was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church where he served several terms on the church council, served as an usher for many years, helped record weekly offerings on the counting team and was very active as a volunteer whenever and wherever needed. Romy was also a member of the Manitowoc Fish and Game, enjoyed woodworking, gardening, biking, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Romy was known for being able to fix just about anything and always enjoyed the challenge it brought. He truly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Romy was a father figure also for many people.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Shirley; three children: Mark (Joanne) Gaedtke, Manitowoc, WI; Brenda (David) Behnke, Two Rivers, WI; Lance (Beth) Gaedtke, Manitowoc, WI; seven grandchildren: Alyssa (Brad) Weber, Kelsey Gaedtke, Erica (Derick) Schoenike, Jonathan Behnke, Dustin Behnke, Sarabeth Gaedtke, Matthew Gaedtke; six brothers and one sister: Jerome (Ardella) Gaedtke, Manitowoc, WI; Reinhardt (Shirley) Gaedtke Jr., Manitowoc, WI; Harlan (Caroline) Gaedtke, Manitowoc, WI; Herman (Carol) Gaedtke, Kiel, WI; Rahlan (Mary Jane) Gaedtke, Stevens Point, WI; Maxine Gates, Two Rivers, WI; Reginald (Phyllis) Gaedtke, Manitowoc, WI; sister-in-law: Jenny (Gale) Windus, Manitowoc, WI; brother-in-law: Charlie Waniger, Manitowoc, WI; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Reinhardt and Adeline Gaedtke; daughter-in-law: Pamela Gaedtke; sister and brother-in-law: Geraldine and Harold Behnke; brother-in-law: Glenn Gates.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, 916 Pine Street, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Schossow and Rev. Nicholas Maglietto with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, WI. Relatives and friends may call at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials for Immanuel Ev.
