BIOGRAPHY: JOHN W. GEIGER, of Philadelphia (b. abt. 1831, Dauphin County, d. 28 Oct 1882, Philadelphia). John was a machinist by trade and served as a Private in the Civil War. He enlisted in Philadelphia and served in Co. D of the 26th Penn. Volunteers and Co. C of the 99th PA Infantry. He suffered a skull fracture at Brandy Station, VA between these two assignments. His injuries plagued him for the rest of his life and he travelled from Philadelphia to Dayton, OH several times for treatment at the US National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. John was married to Adaline Geiger, they resided in Philadelphia. He died just a few months after his mother, Clarissa Geiger, and was buried at her side in Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg, Dauphin County, near the home of Clarissa Geiger’s first daughter, Mary [Geiger] Martin.
