Josephine graduated from Newbury (VT) High School in 1919, attended Montpelier (VT) Seminary, a preparatory school for teachers, 1919-1921.

Signed a Contract for Teaching with town of Newbury to teach in the Fulton School (near Corinth & still standing in 2006) for 34 weeks beginning September 8, 1919 for $11.00 a week. Did student teaching in Bradford, VT and substitute taught at Pompanoosuc, Vt. Taught in one-room school at Goodrich Four Corners (Root District), Norwich, VT, 1921-23; had 14 pupils.

Married Charles Ladd on June 13, 1923.
