On June 13, 1899 he married Martha Finlay daugther of Joseph Wilson Finlay, a plater's helper and Sarah McCormick. Robert's father was listed as John Wylie, a coaltrimmer.
Robert came to Canada ahead of his family. Wife Martha and children John, Sarah, Martha, Isabella and Ethel stayed behind until the death of Sarah from tuberculosis.
Martha and her children travelled to Canada in 1910 aboard the ship called the Empress of Ireland. Their port of arrival was St. John, New Brunswick on December 23, 1910.
Prior to coming to Canada Robert was a soldier in the Boer war.
Robert and Martha had two children after their arrival in Canada, Robert and Lillian. Son Robert died at 2 years old in 1912.
Robert died in 1957.
