Mr. Hettenbach, son of William Hettenbach and wife Anna, nee Trachsel, was born March 26, 1923, at Chamois.
He was baptized at St. John's United Church of Christ, Chamois, and received his education in the Chamois schools. Mr. Hettenbach attended Washington University where he received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.
Mr. Hettenbach served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in North Africa where he used his mechanical skills to repair airplanes.
On June 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lorrine Leineke at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, St. Louis. To this marriage three sons were born.
For nearly 40 years, Mr. Hettenbach worked as a mechanical engineer for Union Electric. Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Washington.
After his wife's death on December 2, 1990, Mr. Hettenbach joined a Wednesday morning Bible study group where he was introduced to Barbara Landwehrmier, who he married October 11, 1992.
Mr. Hettenbach was preceded in death by his parents; by his first wife Lorrine Hettenbach; and by his sister, Frieda Hettenbach.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hettenbach; three sons, Bryan Hettenbach and wife Annette, Clayton, Bart Hettenbach and wife Karen, Madison, Wisconsin, and Dean Hettenbach and wife Leslie, Atlanta, Georgia; by four grandchildren; three stepsons, Kirk Landwehrmier and wife Debra, St. Charles, Richard Landwehrmier, Naples, Florida, and Eric Landwehrmier; by two stepgrandchildren; one brother, Walter Hettenbach and wife Jewel, Chamois; two sisters, Lydia Hagedorn, Ballwin, and Bertha Holzem and husband Ed, Jefferson City; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 28, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Washington, with Rev. William Schwab officiating. Interment was in Chamois United Church of Christ Cemetery, Chamois. Memorials to St. Peter's United Church of Christ are preferred.
