CONNERSVILLE - Walter J. "Jim" Crowell, 55, 2202 Vermont Ave., died early Monday at Fayette Memorial Hospital where he was admitted May 4.

He had been an employee at American Kitchens, AVCO Corp., in Richmond and since October 1967 was employed as a tool engineer at Ford Aerospace. He was a native and lifelong resident of Fayette County. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines; a life member and past commander of Amvets Post 11; and statewide department senior vice commander, Judge advocate and service foundation member of the Post. He was a member of the American Legion and served 14 years on the Connersville Utility Board.

He was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, serving two years on the parish council, a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Father Peter's General Assembly, Forth Degree of the K of C and a charter member of the Singing Knight of St. Gabriel's.

Survivors include his wife Jean Schwartz Crowell; three sons, Mark Crowell of Boone, N.C., an Bret and Scot Crowell, both at home; two daughters, Dana Miyat pf Knoxville, Tenn., and Kari Crowell of Cincinnati; four brothers, George Crowell of Springfield, Ohio, Edward Crowell of Bloomington, Anthony "Mike" Crowell of Fayette County and Robert Crowell of Frankton; three sisters, Esther Burger of Frankton, Dorothy Hendrickson of Fairborn, Ohio, and Grace Bradburn of Bradenton, Fla.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the St Gabriel's Church. Military services will be conducted by the Fayette COunty Veterans Council in Dale Cemetery.
