He served in the Civil War in the 85th Indiana Volunteers Co G from Aug 14 1862-May 24 1865. He was a Corporal. He was discharged a month before the rest of his unit and applied for his disability pension July 2 1865. I assume he must have been badly wounded. His father applied for survivors benefits June 24 1867 so William must have died between those dates. After his fathers death his mother drew $8 a month survivors benifits.
