James was a son of George & Amanda Rodgers Baber. He married Florence L. Davis and they had a son George Harry Baber.
Dr. Baber came to Huntington in 1925 from Fayette County, where he had practiced for many years. He continued that practice in Huntington as a stomach specialist until he retired in 1932. He was a graduate of Louisville Medical School in Kentucky.
At the time of his death he was survived by his family and three sisters; Miss Elva Baber, Mrs. Ben (Ola) DeHaas Koontz and Mrs. E. J. Payne.
