John Smalley was born and raised in the "Fishtown" neighborhood of Philadelphia. He served in the USAF during the Korean War. He married Florence Frost (d- 9/1/2006) on January 31, 1959 and had four children: Susan (Stevenson), Michael, Steven, Marc. He had eight grandchildren (Christopher, Brandon, Michael, David, Rachel, Sean, Ryan, and John). "Jack" drove a truck for Sears Roebuck and Co. for many years, until being elected to a position as Secretary/Business Agent for Teamsters Local 107. Later, he was elected to the position of Vice President/Business Agent for Teamsters Local 107.
