He was born on 2 December 1890 in Podolino, Austria-Hungary to Joseph and Sophia Wojtyla Koval. At the age of 15 he left Polodino and went to Bremen, Germany where he boarded the vessel Necker. He arrived in New York City on 17 March 1905. After that he went to Pennsylvania. In November of 1913 he moved to New York State. He was the father of Jacob, Andrew J., Stephen M., and Frank J. Koval. He died on 17 September 1952 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, NY. He was buried three days later.
