Pastor Henry G. Baynes, 81, died at 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2005, in the Colonial Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. He was the husband of Mary Baynes, to whom he was married for 40 years. Pastor Baynes was born on June 10, 1924, in Raleigh, NC, the son of the late Willie and Maude Long Baynes. He had been employed by Caterpillar Tractor Company as a supervisor, until his retirement. Pastor Baynes was a former member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and an adult Sunday school teacher. In 1990, he began his own church, the Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 40 Jefferson Ave., York. He graduated from Newburg Academy in Newburg, NY in 1942. He was also involved in the prison ministry and was a US Army Veteran. Pastor Baynes is survived by three daughters, Sabrina K. Lett of Chesapeake, Va., Joya Z. Baynes of Boston, Mass., and Michelle F. Owens of York; 11 grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; one sister, Alexzenia Williams of Newburg, NY; and one goddaughter, Precious Brown of Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by three sons; and one godchild, Ingrid Lee. Funeral Saturday, at Shiloh Baptist Church, York, Rev. Jasmin W. Sculark officiating and Rev. Robert Jamison giving the eulogy. Burial in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with military honors by the York County Honorguard. [York Daily Record]
